After consulting Eric Shelton's extremely well put together list, I'll add Hitman and The Professional, since most of my all-time favorites are already listed.  Hopefully there'll be some more Stephen Hunter movies along the line of "Shooter," or (fingers crossed) Monster Hunter International.

It's not a huge gun movie, but "Snatch" is pretty good.  It's got some real funny parts to it. Along the same lines as that is "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" but again not huge gun movies but decent.  Both are pretty funny.  Watch "Snatch" first, because if you don't like that you won't have to sit through "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"  Then maybe Boondock Saints, Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, any of the Bourne movies.  Just some ideas.

Beer For My Horses - very amusing and fun, a bit of a modern-day western that opens up
with a great James McMurtry song "Choctaw Bingo," used in the opening credits.
The song is actually pretty long and has some pretty cool gun related stuff in it, too.

Edit: Oh Yeah - Ted Nugent has a very funny part as a deputy that doesn't say anything
until the end of the film.

Another one - ultra low budget horror film called the Other Side.   Lots and lots of enthusiastic gunplay, and a good
guy character that admonishes the hero of the story, "a main ain't a man if he can't handle his guns."

+1 on Mean Guns - very cool and underrated direct-to-video flick.

Let me add Year of the Dragon, if only because it's the first film to feature a Desert Eagle.

I have to agree with Hot Fuzz and Quigley Down Under, the quick draw scene in Quigley is one I could watch over and over again.

I didn't see anyone list We Were Soldiers.  I love that movie, especialy the Sergeant Major with his 1911.

I am also a huge Firefly fan, just for the record.

wow, 9 pages and not one mention of "The Matrix".  Has this movie fallen so far because of the sequels?

Evidently so.

Any Western's are good for me. Big Jake and El Dorado are up there with Tombstone and Silverado. If I need a more modern day gun movie I go to the staples. The Die Hard series are always great and I love the Lethal Weapon shows too.
but...My favorites are the John Wayne movies.
I can watch Tombstone & Silverado over and over without getting tired of them. Val Kilmer was perfect as Doc Holiday in Tombstone. I don't think they could have done better. I loved it in Silverado when Kevin Costner backed out of the saloon and took out the two bad guys on opposite sides of him at the same time. And when Kevin Kline was fumbling with his newly purchased POS revolver while the bad guy is riding towards him shooting at him, then at the last minute gets it together and kills the guy. I can't believe nobody mentioned Smokin Aces with the 50 cal sniper and the shootout at the elevator. Of course my new favorite is Zombieland. Rule #4: Double-Tap.

The Matrix and Die Hard get my vote.  Grand Torino is just awesome all the way around.

and for the South African perspective (and yes I know some of these have been mentioned before but hey things take a while to sink in down here!)

Blood Diamond (mainly Leo's scene where he calls the guy a "DOOS" it doesnt translate well but funny as all hell if you are Afrikaans!)
We Were Soldiers and young once! (Gentlemen, prepare to defend yourselves!)
Heartbreak Ridge
Gran Tourino
Heat (The Galil, brings back lots of memories of our R4's)
Proof of Life
Collateral
A Bridge Too Far!
Blackhawk Down
Kingdom
Full Metal Jacket

I have also enjoyed the following tv series a great deal
NCIS
The Unit

Also a documentary called "Shadow Company" is well worth checking out!

Anyway thats the Southern African angle!

It's not an "old" thread, it's a "classic" thread...

The Quick and The Dead -- Sharon Stone, Russel Crowe, Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio.  Directed by Sam Raimi.  Not a classic, but fun.  Not surprisingly, Sharon does a sex scene, but only in the international version. Wink  Currently available for free on Hulu.com

Don't forget The Untouchables.  Eliot Ness wields a 1911, among other very nice weaponry in that film.

John Wayne films have been mentioned frequently, so I will only mention that he made great movies during the war that were not westerns. Sands of Iwo Jima comes to mind.

One of my favorite old westerns has always been a Paul Newman film called Hombre. It has Richard Boone as the BG, and Boone is a fabulous BG. There are a number of interesting gun battles in it, usually in more unorthodox situations. If you haven't seen it, you ought to get a copy and watch. It was made back in the '60's I believe, during Newman's "H" series of films (Hud, Hustler, Hombre).

Dads with daughters should keep all firearms out of their reach while watching "Taken."  Wink  Great film.
