I was on a road trip and was able to get .223 for 9.99 per 20 at a Bass Pro in AL.  They had plenty in stock.

Here are some of the prices I have found:

.380 - $17 for 50. That is in the rare instance I happen upon it. I check about once a week at various stores (Shooters Jax. BullsEye, Wally World) and have only found 50 rounds in the last 2 months. I even went our local gun show on the first day one hour after they opened and they were already sold out!
10mm - $20 for 50
.223 - $10 for 20
7.62 x 39 - $12 for 20
7.62 x 54r - $10 for 20 (they were on sale usually $14 for 20)

I don't have the money yet to buy in bulk  Sad

So I cruise into my first Gander Mountain experience today and I couldn't have been more dissapointed.  They had a full stock of Blazer Brass in .40 50 pack and Remington .223 metal case 20 pack, neither of which I can find at Walmart anymore.
At WallyWorld the Blazer Brass is usually $12.50 for 50...at GanderMnt the same box cost $25!!!! Angry
At WallyWorld the .223 is uaually just under $10...at GanderMnt the same box cost $15!!!! Angry
Needless to say I will never give them any of my business!  For anyone who cares, it's the Gander Mountain north of Richmond by Virginia Center Commons where 295 and 95 meet.

Gander has gotten real greedy here in Carolina too. $28 for Blazer Brass .40, IF they have any.

Their spring catalog came today. Almost died laughing looking at the catalog prices compared to what's in store. Was like a trip in a time machine.

Smaller shops seem to be hit or miss.

Quit. Freaking. Hoarding. People. Buy a few boxes a week, don't clean out the shelves and drive prices higher.

I'll stop buying all I can get when I have all that I want to shoot.  If I have less that 1,000 rounds, then me buying is not hoarding.  However, it is true, a lot of places are jacking up prices because they can.  Gander Mountain is... also, Cheaper than Dirt has been doing the same as well.  Midway has stayed solid on their prices if what you want is in stock.  I just bought 380 auto from them at 17 bucks a box, much better than the store prices around here (when they even have it... the past 2 months I have been able to get 3 boxes of 380 locally, most of which was at least 70 cents/round).  I give huge props to Wal-Tron... they have stayed true on their prices and have been limiting sales to 6 boxes a person.  Now, they are always my 1st stop.

Agreed, and having less than 1,000 rounds is not having any in my book. My comment was not directed at this group.

I think the problem is not folks like all us members here, it's the crowd frenzy that shortages cause. When the shortage started I saw people filling shopping carts like they were on a game show and grabbing up cases just because they were there. In January while looking around at Gander a lady asked me where the pistol ammo was. Asked her what she needed and she replied she had just purchased a Taurus Judge that day. After explaining to her what ammo it used, she scooped every box off the shelf into her arms and sprinted to the register.

Last summer we were running low on gasoline in NC due to the hurricane in Texas (supposedly). Word got around and the media called for "possible shortages and lines". The next day you couldn't get gas. Or for the next month and a half. All the sheeple ran out and bought all they could everywhere stressing the already weakened system even more. It reminded me of the gas lines and rationing in the 70's.

Every time there is a threat of ice or a hurricane here people buy out the grocery store. Saw a woman interviewed on TV who had 18 loaves of bread and 10 gallons of milk in her cart. The reporter actually counted them.

I buy a couple of boxes of ammo every week so that I can continue to shoot, and always have. I also buy a few extra canned goods or other long term storage types of foods when buying groceries for when the power goes out or ice keeps me in the house for several days. The gas tank on my car never gets below half.

Longer term preparation and continual stocking just makes more sense to me than the run around and buy up everything mentality.

I just loaded up on some more 5.45x39 ammo. I think I spent about $160 after tax and shipping per 1080 round tin.  It isn't the best ammo, but sure is a lot more affordable than .223 right now.  I use it in my little 5.45x39 AR-15 I built with a S&W 5.45x39 upper.  I like it because it shoots the same ammo as my AK-74 and feels the same as my regular .223 AR-15.  My shooting buddies get jealous when I tell em how cheap my AR-15 costs to shoot in comparison to theirs.  If anybody else is interested, I bought my ammo at http://ammoman.com

So I walked into a Kmart in the ghetto today and saw that some of their ammo had sales stickers on them... They had some 308 Winchester 150 Grain Power-Point Super-X for $5 in a box the same size as a 9mm or 40S&W 50 pack...I'm not familiar with this round so I wouldn't know how many are in this box but I know some of you guys shoot this stuff and thought it would be a good buy...?  Let me know... they had 7 boxes

took a road trip this past weekend...  Walmart had 9mm at 3 different towns.  Local Walmart now has 45 acp in stock.  100rd white box $30.  They also had 9mm.  Academy now is getting the imported Monarch .380's.  Looks like it's slowly coming back to the shelves in my area.

Anyone else?

tboy hit walmart on college and right there in brusly.

not that great of prices, but at least it's there.

I've only got about 150 rounds of .40 and say 1200 or so in 9mm.

The only safe defense rounds I have are in the clips, and a half a box of powr ball for the .40.

Two weekends ago Gander had 5 UMC MegaPack's of 250 .40 for $119. Plan to see what they have this weekend.

Ranges and gun shops still have pretty good supply in NC but the prices are through the roof still. Nobody else has anything to speak of in handgun calibers. Bass Pro used to have decent quantities but ours is attached to an outlet mall and gets picked clean like a fat kid eyeing the last piece of chocolate cake.

In the mean time I've been picking up rifle and shotgun rounds at normal and sale prices.

Has anyone used http://www.luckygunner.com/ before? They have OK prices when they have anything in stock.

If you've listen to my podcast you know that I have not spent much time at the range past two years. Except for the last two weeks where I have used up several hundred rounds.

So today I had to purchase some while I was at Wal-Mart and this is what I paid.

Federal Ammunition:

.40 S&W 180 gr FMJ FN $13.97
9mm 115 gr FMJ RN $9.47

Remington:
.22  Short Golden Bullet $3.17

That wally-world stocked 9mm ammo doesn't stick around for long.  They only get a small supply and then you've got to wait forever till they get more in stock.

I just wait till the gunshow comes to town and grab several thousand rounds of Bitter Root Valley ammunition.  Got 2000 rounds of it at the gunshow last month and it only cost me $169 per 1000 round box, and that's with taxes added in.  Factory-made ammo.  Shoots pretty decent for range ammo.
