Show # 26 is here, listen for the special Practical Defense Promo.  This show may or may not stir the pot a little.

Just listened to it. So if Alex is getting beat up by the other podcasters then it makes me wonder if he listens to his own podcast. Or maybe it's because the other podcasters listen so they already know his secrets?

You assume too much, Armbar. I don't actually write the podcast material; I'm just the voice-talent. My wife has a monkey chained to a typewriter in the basement who does all the writing.

Now for the serious post.
Great show Tony. It's funny but the issue on how openly carrying has the gun community in California split too. There are some who advocate open carry here, but there are some who feel that the display is too "in your face" and maybe detrimental to the gun rights movement in California. Michael Bane recounts the same reaction back in the day when Marion Hammer was first selling the idea of concealed carry in Florida. Maybe some people think it's just too much, too soon.
I personally support carrying openly in California especially since CCW licenses are hard to get. I also think it's a great way to educate the public as well means of exercising one's legal rights.

Indeed, a good show.

My CCW instructor is also a Deputy LA County Sheriff. He was all for concealed carry, but very much against open carry. He said open carry here in CA was legal on the books, but you were stupid if you pushed it and "deserved what you got for doing it."

In Santa Monica someone open carried in a Trader Joe's grocery store (not causing a ruckus). When he exited the store carrying his groceries, he was met at gunpoint by SWAT, arrested and later released (since he hadn't broken any laws). We call Santa Monica "Soviet Monica" or even "The People's Republic of Santa Monica." I've heard it called that since 80s, and it probably predates that...

(how did the monkey's picture leak out?!?!)

I don’t think I would shoot someone over property. However, I don’t know the intentions of the criminals. I don’t know that they will not return and harm the people that live in that house. How could a person live with knowing they allowed the criminals to get away and later come back and rape, beat or murder those that cannot defend themselves.

I understand it is hard for those that take a life and it seems it would be worse if it was done over property. The concern I have is that most criminals return to a place where they know they can get an easy “score”. I couldn’t live with knowing I could have stopped that woman or child or good man from being abused because I was afraid of the law punishing me.

I don’t know if Joe Horn was morally correct for doing what he did but that is not the issue. The issue is who the law protects.

I've been thinking about starting to open carry more often.  I think I might start to OC at least once per week.

Wow, that response is the reason more people in Cali should open carry, needs to be more common place.

Well I think I know where you are coming from. You wrote about allowing the criminals to get away, but we are not responsible for the violent acts of others.

I think Mr. Horn should of stayed in his house and witnessed the robbery. Nobody was being hurt. No reason to put bystanders or police in danger for a bag of stuff. Just my opinion. I felt my heart beating faster as Mr. Horn racked his shotgun and said he was gona kill em. He had to be feeling helpless just watching but he still had no business going out and shooting them. I'd love it if my neighbor was willing to call the police if he saw somebody breaking into my house but I'd also want him to stay put and stay safe too.

9-1-1 or 1911, you pick!

As far as the beatdown on Alex, take away the guns, and my money is on him.

Concerning the 911 audio, the man did escalate the situation and put himself at a greater risk. He should have just stayed in his home and waited for the police. Although he was probably justified in defending himself, the DA may not see it that way. This falls under the "do as I say, not as I do". I would have sat on my front porch with shotgun in hand, and sang the theme song to "Cops". I'm not confronting them, I'm just singing to myself on my own little property. But like I said, what I do in my own stupidity is not what you should be doing. Tony hit the nail on the head.

Everyone has their own "tipping" point on when to, or not to, become involved.  Good point.

Is it the same as the "Trunk Monkey?"

I think you may need to contact quality control on your model....I've heard the Carls had a high failure rate do to incontinence issues as well a tendency to curl up in the fetal position during an altercation.  Just thought you should know.
