A comment from an instructor friend of mine, Bob Houzenga of Midwest Training Group, who has that birth defect of left-handedness. An interesting problem that we did not see when we tested the SIG P250, that some of you might want to be aware of.

Quote
Just returned from a teaching engagement in Michigan. While there I had the opportunity to shoot a students Sig P250. The pistol was
lightweight, accurate and the trigger was certainly useable. One interesting little tidbit was that every time I fired the gun the mag
would drop down slightly resulting in an empty chamber. Upon closer inspection I found the mag release button spring to be very (too)
light. My grip on the pistol was pushing the button in during recoil and causing the malf. Every time....Guess I still ain't found a Sig I
can live with yet. The right handed female student had no such issue with it and used it with aplomb for over 600 rounds. She posted a 295
out of a possible 300 on the LFI-1 qualification.

So then what about those of us who can shoot both righty and lefty? GIFTED X2?  Wink

Joking aside, I am right hand dominant. But I have taught myself to shoot accurately left handed as well. Just in case my right hand were to become incapacitated during a time of HD.

What? I've got a left hand?  Angry Where did that come from and what the heck am I supposed to do with this useless thing?

Crap. I've barely got my right hand figured out.

And you say you can SHOOT with it? Huh

Thoroughly confused,

Gail,
Deep inside there is a part of you that wishes she were right handed. You hide it well, but it's there.

Just kidding. My mom's a lefty and my paternal grandmother always held it against her. When I was little, if I picked up anything with my left hand, my grandmother would make me put it down and pick it up with my right hand, just to insure I didn't get any left handed tendancies. What an odd prejudice.

It really made learning the banjo a trick. Ol left hand just didn't want to cooperate.

Then, my first IDPA match, they want me to shoot using JUST MY LEFT HAND! What cruelty is this?

Damn this useless lump at the end of my left arm. I shall beat it into submission. It will do my bidding.

Bob, Yes I am feeling somewhat better, I think it is coming back. Shocked

Kevin, the left handedness runs strong in my family. we're about 60/40.

What ya gotta do is get a left handed holster and shoot a match mirror image, in fact maybe we all should pick a match at Jax one month and shoot lefty. Might make a good podcast subject. What do youse guys think?

I'm game for a left handed match. I'll end up shooting my right hand, but I'm game. Awesome idea. Even in a weakened, sickly state, Her Great Podcastiness comes up with 'em. Truly amazing.

Glad you're feeling better. What's the prognosis on Steve's eye for the next match?

I'm up for a weak hand match.... but only after the 2009 FL State match. I'm not going to buy a new holster for it, but I think rules  would allow for a strong hand draw.. shift to left.. and shoot with the weak hand in whatever manner (freestyle, etc) the COF requires. Or, just make it a weak hand only match... with a shift on the draw. I'm up for it, but I ain't buying a left hand holster.

Agreed: Only after state shoot.

Chris, we got southpaw holsters for your Glock 29, your M&P, and your service revolver(s).  Part of the deal is the southpaw reload too, and with a holster on the right hip,  you'd have to put the mag pouch toward the middle of the back for the reloads.  Unfair disadvantage to ya.

Pick a gun this week, and we'll have the southpaw holster at the Jax match first Sat. in Feb. for you to practice with for a month.  (No smiley emoticon for well known reasons...)

OH OH OH Count me in. Grin But like Mas only after state. We should sign as Lefty ______ .
I happen to be thinking about the M&P also, ambi slide release and the mag release is already on the correct side for lefties. Shocked That should be a run for the Dixie Cup. Mas has it and I want it back!! Cool

I shoot lefty but am right handed, I decided to shoot dominant eye, with a 1911.  I find most of the controls easier as a lefty, except for the safety.  Though I will soon get an ambi safety for that.  The only thing is will I have to do any smithing on that?  From what I've seen I will, but is it easy? or would it be best for all concerned to bring it to a smith?
