I got a magpul MOE grip from my buddies shop yesterday. I was wanting to get an ergo grio because I kinda like the spongy rubber feel, well he had been given a few extra by Magpul and he gave me one for free to try out. The only thing i really like is the looks, other than that is basically worse than the original one. Its slick, (not looking, the feel) like new plastic. I was wanting to scuff it up or take a dremal to it.
So should i scuff it up or throw it out?
Already told my buddy about and he was shocked, he is kinda a magpul junkie though. He has the fancy one with the removable back straps and he loves it. I have always found magpul stuff the be better an OE. Just wanted to know if any body else had this problem?
thanks

I'm not a MOE fan at all, but it seems like everybody is getting that stuff... I'd say just scuff up the grip and use it for battery storage. Or those tiny sized slim jims. Or bacon bits. Yum!

Mod it up and then if you still don't like it throw it out anyway. You might scuff it heavy, then build it up with epoxi and work it till it fits and spray it with flat black krylon.

Taking a Dremel to an AR grip = good idea! I attacked my standard grip with a Dremel and whacked off that stupid finger thing sticking out the front of the grip (sorry, I don't know the actual term for it). Then hit the rest of the grip with the Dremel on med speed. The combination of the tiny wire wheel and the friction heat really helped add some tactile feel to the smooth parts of the grip.

I like the idea of building it up with epoxy. I will have to try that. I have a hard ergo grip on mine, and it doesn't have enough of a palm swell for me. My favorite grip so far is the Houge, but I can't find that in green.

I saw a guy take a bicycle inertube and stretch it over a standard grip. He cut it to size, and heated it up to shrink it. It gave it a nice feel, but you can't get that in green.

One of the plus sides of the MOE is that it comes in SIZES, these make the LOP longer than the standard issue. Many people are basically trying to glue their hands to a grip that is too small. I have big hands and use the MAID with it's thickest backstrap and find it to make a huge difference in control. If the grip is sized right you should be able to control it even if it's covered in oil. GIs and Marines don't always have the option of replacing grips but they can get away with some "field wear" even if it's caused by a file (or a knife...) I worked with a guy in Latin America that put three boot laces topped with about 20 ft. of riggers tape around his M16 grip to make it work for him. I've also seen a couple guys cut 1/2" off the bottom.
On Your grip, it has low value for you since it doesn't help you. It may have high value to someone else. It's yours now so cut it as you want! I suggest you look at longer LOP over texture.

I'm not a fan of any of the Magpul grips, MOE or MIAD. For me, the Tangodown grip is the best out there and is what I put on each AR I own.

I have been very happy with the Falcon Industries Ergo-Grip. It's cushy enough for comfort and has an increased backstrap LOP for much better trigger finger positioning over the standard A-2 grip. They're not expensive and I believe Brownell's carries them (that's where I got mine). Chris Christian

I've tried several grips...I prefer the ERGO for my hand. I have it on 3 of my ARs. Hogue used to be my favorite but the ERGO fits me a bit better. I do like the overmolded version the best. AR-15 based rifles - BOHICA A2 upper on DPMS lower, .50 BMG
- J&T 24†varmint upper on DPMS lower, 5.56x45mm
- WOA DCM upper on Rock River lower, 5.56x45mm
- CMT upper, 18†WOA barrel on AeroPrecision lower, 6.8x43mm SPC
- BCM 18" on DPMS lower, 5.56x45mm
- J&T M4-gery upper on DPMS lower, 5.56x45mm
- Olympic Arms upper on DPMS lower, 9x19mm

Just to clarify, the MOE only comes in one size. The MIAD allows you to switch backstraps. A lot of this comes down to personal preference. And for me LOP is my number one concern, and then grip texture. Personally, I can't stand the rubberized grips on an AR. I can't articulate why, I just don't like them. For me, the standard A2 grip is the absolute worst. I love the MIAD, but I do not like the MOE. There is a big difference between the two. With my BIG meat hooks, the MIAD with the largest back strap gives me the perfect LOP, and the texture on the grip is very aggressive and gives great traction. The MOE, not so much. The texture on the MOE is much less aggressive, feels too slick, plus it's sized after the medium sized backstrap, which just doesn't give me the LOP that I need. I could care less about the grip inserts on either of them.

I'm currently running a MOE on my AR and I definetly like it better than the stock A2 grip but I'm starting to wonder if there might be something better out there. I would like a little more LOP. I'll pick up a MIAD or an Ergo soon to try out.

I was looking around today at the gunstores and tried the MOE on a rifle, I was surprised, I really like it. But I still prefer the Hogue or the ERGO.

When I was at SHOT, Magpul had a MOE grip that had a rubberized texture. Should be out this year.

Sounds like the MOE+ that Magpul has been hinting at for a while now. I mght have to try one out but I'm still more interested in getting an ERGO at this point.
