I know that there are some great .45 mags on the market and some real dogs.... who makes a good magazine that will last?

Thank you! I know that Wilson makes a few models....is any one better than the other? I'm going to use the gun for IDPA so I need to stay compliant.

FWIW, I'm using the new-style Wilson 1911 .45 magazines and also the heavy duty Dave Lauck magazines, both for carry and IDPA competition.
Totally satisfied with both.
best, Mas

Thanks Mas. I need to pick up one more so I can shoot it at our next match but I want to pick up a couple of solid / real mags if I decide to use it long term.

I've heard great things about Dave Lauck and Cobra as well. I run Wilson Combat's model 47D.

Anyone run Chick McCormack (sp?) mags? The shop that is handling the transfer sells them and I may pick up one just to get going until I can figure out what I want to do.
I know I want to pick up a set of VZ Operator grips but that's about it at his point.....
Thanks once again.

I've got a SW1911 and a metric buttload of Chip's SS Powermags. Like 'em alot, never a failure. They even survived a mule footed TO stepping on them during a SASS Wild Bunch competition. MidwayUSA had a killer sale in Nov - might stlil be going on.

The two kinds of magazines that that I use in my 1911s are the Wilson Combat 47D and the Kimber Pro Tac-Mag. Both hold eight rounds, have a smooth feed, and have quality springs that last a long time. Once you start using really good magazines, you will never look back. I am guessing much of the "crankiness" 1911s have been accused of is related to running good guns with bad mags.

I saw a number of people at the idpa match last month using checkmate mags and talking about them. I handled one and they are very nicely constructed. http://www.checkmateindustries.com/handgun.htmtom

Thanks everyone. I took the gun out and the thing hurt my hand worse than I thought possible. The grip safety dug into the web of my hand and to replace it I would have had to replace the hammer as well.
That's too bad. I had a similar experience years, hell - decades, ago: I shot a military type 1911 of undetermined pedigree (Colt?). The gun was abusive, heavy, inaccurate, and jammed several times. But - if I had shot a modern gun the quality of my SW1911 all those years ago, I'd probably have a safe full of '11s by now. ;^)' You might try another brand or type of 1911. They are truly a wonderful platform.

+1 with Miggy. But I'd look at all of these others as well. Matt G

Who makes the "best" magazine is largely irrelevant.
What matters is who makes the most reliable magazine for YOUR 1911. I had a Springfield that hated Wilson magazines, but ran like a champ with the Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags. My current Springfield, current being defined as closer to the front door of the safe, hates Chip McCormick magazines and eats anything I feed it in a Wilson magazine.
You need to test your magazines. Heck, I've even had Glock magazines fail because of the follower. It was an easy fix, as Glock sent me an "updated" follower.

I have the standard magazines from Springfield and a Chip McCormick. I upgraded them by changing out the spring and follower from Wilson. Both now work superb.

. I've got a metric buttload of McCormicks for the SASS Wild Bunch competitions. Once I cleaned out the thick shipping preservative they have been completely reliable in my SW1911. Midway has a sale on them about every other month.
