It is very difficult to do something well... under pressure... that you have never done before. In that respect, IDPA will make you do things you may not have thought of doing. And... the good news is... the more you do them the less you SUCK. Chris Christian

To take the 10 rnd thing a bit further and remembering that this is a game, we had two stages where "the state of WA has passed new legislation" one that limited you to 8 rnds and one to 6. This served a few purposes: humor, a bit of awareness (as lots of regulatory talk has been swirling from our wonderous legislators), a strategic placement of forcing reloads which ie a great skill to reinforce. IDPA isn't about reality, no body is shooting at me, I wouldn't start a situation like our 6th stage with my gun on the table pointing at my significant other and my muscles pretensed to pickup, stand and fire. For the FN question I would follow with a where is FN with creating a competitive league as Ruger has with rimfire, Glock has with GSSF?

On the 10 round thing, if I have a glock 17 can I shoot with a 17 round mag as long as I don't load more than 10 rounds per mag? Or am I forced to buy 10 round mags to use in the gun (which would probably discourage me from trying the sport as I have no intention of wasting money on a low cap mag).

Haskovez We like to sign our posts at the end with some sort of name, so it's easier for the individual responding to direct it to the right person. RE: mags... you can run 17 round mags in IDPA or USPSA as long as you download them to the capacity of the division you're shooting in. No prob. Chris Christian

Ecolon If you're wondering where your post went ... you posted it right after my admonition to sign posts. You didn't. That pissed GOF (me) off. I considered it a slap in the face. I don't like that. Try to be nicer, and abide by our informal rules, in the future and I'll let your posts stand. If not.......... Chris (GOF) Christian

Does IDPA use mandatory reloads?
USPSA does so in some stages with Virginia count you are revolver nuetral. For instance, if you have three targets (each requires two rounds) then a mandatory reload and a reengagement two rounds each. Virginia count is a scoring system that only allows you a certain number of rounds with no make ups. So if it is two shots per target you may only shoot two rounds. If you miss, you can fire a third round at the target. A combination of these factors evens the playing field a bit for wheel gunners and single stack folks.

Chem, IDPA also has some mandatory reloads thrown in. We also have Limited Vickers scoring, which is the same as USPSA Virginia... as well as Vickers.. same as Comstock. Chris Christian
