Does anyone have any experience with a good reasonably priced magnifier to use with an EOtech?  I currently have a Mako that I use with a LaRue Tactical flip to side mount on my AR.  I love the concept of being able to go from a close quarters sight to a mid-range optic, especially for shooting 3-gun matches, but I'm not happy with the Mako.  It magnifies and blurs the aiming dot slightly and the clarity of the optic is not the best either.  It's really not much better than just using the EOtech by itself.

I like good quality equipment, but I'm kind of a cheapskate as well so the price of the EOtech brand magnifiers have kind of turned me off.  Does the EOtech magnifier suffer the same problems as the Mako or is it really worth it to spend the extra cash?

What Mako magnifier did you get?
I picker up the 5x version a couple months ago and it's been crystal clear for me.
Is is possible you need to adjust the focus ring?

Also, , I am still using the mount that it came with and it causes it to sit so low that my rear sight doesn't fit. . . does the La rue bump it up any higher?

I have the 3x.  Yes I've adjusted the focus ring and it will focus...it's just not great.

The LaRue mount is pretty sweet.  I have a flip up rear sight and when it is folded down it fits right under the magnifier.  The only complaint about the LaRue mount is that it is possible to flip the magnifier too far to the right and it will let the ejected brass to bounce back into the receiver causing a crazy reverse stove pipe malfunction.
