I took my M&P 9L out to the range this afternoon to shoot it from a rest and get a good idea where the gun is shooting in relation to my point of aim. Off the rest I am 6-8" high at 25 yards... Off hand I am 6 - 8" low at 25 yards and my groups are in the 4-5" range. Last night I shot my friend's Dan Wesson (at 10 yards) and I shot a group that you could cover with a quarter right out of the box.
I know that it's the indian not the arrow but I'm starting to get frustrated and I cannot figure out what it going on.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

My first question would be, and I am no expert, compare the type of sights and are they simular? How you grip each gun? Plus a 15 yard difference is considerable in comparing groups and calibers. I'm sure better views will chime in but my .02 cents.

I had a similar "shoots low off hand" problem with a 9L Pro that I purchased about 6 months ago. For whatever reason, after about 500 rounds down range and lots of dry fire time, things improved dramatically (it still is about 2" low at 15 yards... but much tighter groups). I am guessing the problem was a combination of a somewhat rough trigger and a trigger finger that had become overly used to a very nice 1911. If you can shoot a Dan Wesson into a 2" group, you may be having the same problem.

I say try different ammo and see if you experience the same issue. It does not sound or you don't say if you change the sights. I take it as a no since you did not mentioned it. Sight the weapon off the bench rest. See if the problem persist. When I have trouble like that I hand it over to another shooter and see if he has the same problem, and sure enough he did, ammo for me, that g23 just did not like that ammo, was the problem at the time if my memory serves.
I'm not sure on the etiquette here. Are we supposed to wait until the proarms folks comment?

All good advice so far.
Welcome, Brother Colon. No etiquette problem at all. Everyone who participates in this forum is part of the general reservoir of knowledge here, and sharing is encouraged.
All of us on the Podcast are instructors, and we've all been too schools where we learned more from the other students than we did from the designated instructors.
Ain't nothin' changed since Kindergarten as far as "It's Good To Share!"

Colon is right on. Try a couple different types of ammo. Let a friend shoot it. Then you both can compare and hopefully narrow done the problem. Terri

I'm not the smartest guy on the block but I do know that switching guns won't help me learn to shoot any better...... The M&P has the best feel in my hands of any gun I've ever shot and the thing is rock solid and reliable. I promised myself that I was going to stick with the M&P and focus on learning to shoot, not learning how to trade guns and make excuses. I may suck as a gunfighter but I'm going to suck with the gun I came in with. I used to really suck. But I am getting better. I am sure you will too.

To add to my earlier post. When I said "Stick it out"; I meant that I love the M&P platform but understand some pistols just dont fit some people right. If a gun just doesnt work, as hard as it is for some of us, especially financialy, to do we need to find something that works. The goal, be it target or self protection is to hit your mark and if something wasnt working for me in that regard, I'd change.

Matt & S391 made a point we should all take to heart.
My late, lamented mentor Bill Jordan used to say jokingly of his Border Patrol uniform that the campaign hat they were issued for daily wear never quite came to fit their heads, but eventually, their heads came to fit their hat.
This is what Bill, God rest his good soul, was talking about.
Kinda goes with the old saying, "The best gun to win a gunfight with is...the gun you HAVE."
best, Mas

S391, you are doing what 90% of people fail to do, about anything, is to identify you have a problem and develop a COA to fix that problem. You are not ashamed, uncomfortable, or apoligetic. There is a name for that 10% that do these things, they are called "succesful". Good luck.

I think you answered your own question. I'd work on sight picture and forget score for a bit. Once you have changed your ways, sight picture wise, your scores should follow.

Steve, you might want to consider painting your entire front sight blaze orange. Use a layer of white under the orange for best results. That's what I do on my carry guns. IIRC, Chris Christian does the same thing.

Steve, simple way to do it... use Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean front sight. Use white primer paint for the base coat... use flourescent orange paint for the top. Don't waste money on fancy/expensive sight paints. I've tried most of them. Too soft. They wear quickly. I use Ace Hardware store brand spray paints... spray some on a piece of copy paper... let it sit 60 seconds.. then apply to sight with small artists brush (my local Ace Hardware has those too). Fold a business card in half and run it down each side of the front sight right after you paint it to remove any spill over. Retouching is a snap when it becomes necessary. This will focus you on the front righ without dot interference. Chris Christian
