Lets say that i've been getting some "free passes" by the same deputy for 6 years now and the only thing i can attribute it to is my nra license plate.
But here is a member of the VCDL that wrote in with his story. The name has been redacted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think this is especially funny because I just re-located back to Virginia from anti-gun Chicago. The differences could not be more in contrast. Here's my story...
About a month or so ago I made an illegal U-turn (unknowingly, honestly) in Henrico County. I made the turn and pulled into a shopping center. While still sitting in the car preparing to get out I noticed in my rear view mirror that a Henrico County police officer was behind me, blocking my car, with his lights on.
I should mention here that my license plate is one of the "NRA" logo plates available in Virginia, with the "NRA" referenced in my personalized plates and I have an "NRA Life Member" plate holder as well.
He approaches my car and asked if I knew why he was approaching me. I said I had no idea. He explained how I made an illegal U-turn and we talked for a few minutes about how I saw no sign, he admitted the sign is tough to see, that many people make that turn and never see the sign, etc. He then asked me for my license & registration. This entire time I had kept both hands on the steering wheel from the moment I saw him behind my car. At this point, I told him that before I reached for my license and registration, I wished to notify him that where he was asking me to reach that a firearm was readily accessible.
He laughed and said, "with your license plates and NRA stuff, I assumed you had at least one firearm on you somewhere."
I said, "you don't seem too worried about it." He said, "as far as I'm concerned, if you're in the NRA, you're alright in my book."
That was it. He didn't ask to see the gun, didn't watch me with any suspicion, nothing.
I gave him my license and registration. He ran his checks. Returned to my car, said I was an "A driver", told me to look for the U-turn sign the next time I made the turn and he gave me no ticket. I thanked him and as he walked back to his car he turned and ended the conversation with, "keep shooting straight." -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
