While my circa 80's edition is still as viable as ever, I was wondering whether it'll ever be updated, especially in the handguns section.

That's okay. Other than the handgun section, which includes some pistols no longer made, the book remains a good source of information. It's definitely a worthwhile purchase, and one I read every so often as a refresher.
